I was but a kid working for an IT hardware store when I was approached by a never-ending pair of legs and invited to buy advertising for my boss. Having explained to them that the timing was not right for that particular availability, I thought that that was that.
It wasn’t. In the afternoon, the same pair of legs slinked their way back into the shop but they were this time accompanied by a perky moustache. That was my first glimpse of Roy Russell in action, and had I had a shred of budget in hand I would most surely have allotted it to him. About fifteen years down the line, we’ve had the opportunity of having him on board the journal’s team.
Ever polite, professional, liked by all, and a veritable walking encyclopaedia of seasoned sales pitches, Roy Russell invariably answered a “How are you?” with his stock reply “It’s pretty fair to midland” and a quiet chuckle. Now that he’s gone back to greener pastures, we miss him. A lot.
Thank you Roy for having shared your last legs of your work life with us.
It was a pleasure, an honour, and way too short a time.
